Il nome del genere è in onore dell'aracnologo finlandese mwdgMichael Ilmari Saaristo (1938-2008).

Le cinque specie oggi note di questo genere sono state reperite prevalentemente nella mweqregione olartica: la specie dall'mwegareale più vasto è la mwewS. abnormis, rinvenuta in diverse località dell'intera mwfqregione palearticacite-ref-linyphiidae-1-0[1].

Per la determinazione delle caratteristiche della mwhaspecie tipo sono tenute in considerazione le analisi sugli esemplari di mwhqOreonetides abnormis (mwhgBlackwall, 1841)cite-ref-linyphiidae-1-1[1].

Dal 1996 non sono stati esaminati esemplari di questo generecite-ref-linyphiidae-1-2[1].

A dicembre 2012, si compone di cinque speciecite-ref-linyphiidae-1-3[1]cite-ref-2[2]:

• mwwaSaaristoa icterica (mwwqThorell, 1875); trasferita dal genere mwwgLepthyphantes mwwwMenge, 1866 e posta in sinonimia con mwxaS. abnormis (mwxgBlackwall, 1841) a seguito di un lavoro di mwxwHolm (1977c), quando aveva la denominazione di mwyaOreonetides abnormiscite-ref-linyphiidae-1-5[1].
